Living Lab: Exploration, Experimentation, Co-creation

The lab conducts research and development of new construction production methods with the use of robots that contribute to increased productivity. It has a two-storey atrium enclosed by firerated glass and is envisioned to test utilisation of drones at the construction site in the future.
The lab conducts research and experiments on wastewater treatment, waste-toenergy technology, and urban greenery by utilising various functions of living organisms and engineering methods. It consists of the microorganism lab, green infrastructure lab, and chemical analysis lab. Small-scale experiments and chemical analysis will be conducted for optimum design in large scale plants and systems.
The lab conducts research activities mainly on two focus areas – sustainable materials (mainly for concrete materials and geotechnical engineering) and advanced sensing technologies used for buildings and infrastructure projects (fiber optic sensing, satellite sensing, wireless sensors). It also provides engineering services related to concrete and soil engineering (technical consultation), and review of site investigation and numerical simulation.
The Digital Tech Lab conducts research on occupant well-being, energy efficiency, and smart facility management using anonymised and consent-based data. Supported by over 2,000 IoT sensors and advanced tools such as a multi-screen visualisation board and high-performance computing, the lab explores how digital technologies can enhance building performance. All activities are guided by local regulatory requirements and data ethics.
The lab provides natural ventilation and flexibility for different conditions, expect more than majority of the time that the windows are open to reduce energy consumption. Biophilic spirit with the indoor trees and green design. Timbre-based flooring material to enrich the surrounding and soften the ambience to provide a relaxing space for occupants.
