From Pilot to Proof with Wattif

As part of The GEAR’s Community Access Programme, Wattif Technologies is one of the early beneficiaries of Kajima’s commitment to collaborative innovation. The startup’s flagship platform, Notch, transforms building-system data into actionable intelligence—pinpointing energy hotspots, simplifying sustainability reporting, and unlocking asset value.
Looking to validate its first commercial proof-of-concept, Wattif needed a complex, live environment to test and iterate. The GEAR provided exactly that: access to a fully operational, tech-enabled building designed for experimentation.
Over the past few months, Wattif deployed a network of energy-monitoring sensors throughout The GEAR, mapping consumption patterns with precision, down to individual chillers and lighting circuits. The initial findings surfaced unexpected inefficiencies, including appliances that remained idle 80% of the time but still consumed power. These insights enabled immediate corrective actions and opened a clear pathway toward reducing both operational costs and carbon emissions.
For Wattif, this collaboration was more than a pilot. It became a strategic launchpad, providing data-backed evidence of return on investment, which is critical for securing future clients and investor confidence. For The GEAR by Kajima, the engagement exemplified how low-risk experimentation with early-stage solutions can yield real-world impact.
Beyond space and infrastructure, Kajima supported Wattif with controlled testing environments, hands-on engineering feedback, and exposure at industry events hosted at The GEAR.
This is exactly what our startup programme and open innovation platform were built for: turning vision into validation, and innovation into outcomes—with real benefits for both startups and the built environment.
