The GEAR Launches FutureSCAPE to Reframe Architecture Through Dialogue and Design

SINGAPORE, 24 July 2026 – The GEAR by Kajima (“The GEAR”) hosted the inaugural FutureSCAPE [Framing], bringing together architects and built environment leaders from Singapore and Japan, public sector representatives, educators and students.
Centred on the theme “Reframing Architecture Through Dialogue and Design”, the event explored architecture not only as what is built, but also through how spaces are designed, delivered, experienced and reinterpreted by the people who use them. The half-day programme featured presentations by Kajima Design, a cross-border panel on Design-Build, student architectural models, a startup founder sharing and the finals of The GEAR Photography Contest.
ö.Space Installs First ö.Wall System at The GEAR

Interior fit-outs are one of the most wasteful layers of a building. ö.Space is designing a way out.
Every time a building changes tenants or reorganises a floor, the same thing happens: the walls come down. Partitions that took weeks to build are demolished in days. The plasterboard, the framing, the finishes. Almost all of it ends up as waste. New walls go up in their place, made from new materials, installed by new labour. The cycle repeats.
The GEAR & Adaptavate: Closing the Evidence Gap in Sustainable Materials

The construction sector has no shortage of ambition on sustainability. Targets are set and roadmaps are in place. What is still missing is the real-world evidence needed to move materials from pilot into project specifications.
It has to start somewhere. This time, it started with a 3-metre wall.
What We’re Hearing From the Built Environment Innovation Pipeline: Notes From Our Q1 2026 Partner Forum

Every quarter, The GEAR convenes its Startup CoLab programme partners for a closed-door partner forum, which is part programme review, part market signal scan, and part working session on where the built environment is actually moving. The forum is anchored by a standing group of six founding programme partners: JTC, BCA, ACE.SG, Enterprise Singapore, HKSTP, and SMU IIE.
Why the Built Environment is Ready for a Materials Revolution

The built environment has made real progress on operational carbon. Smarter building systems, better monitoring, greener energy sources — the tools exist, and the adoption is growing.
